Mustang Solo Harley Seat Review

Mustang has been making seats for Harley Davidsons for what seems like forever. They have a reputation for producing some of the most comfortable seats on the market, at least when it comes to a solo seat. I put a studded Mustang solo seat on an old Fatboy that I used to own. A few friends who rode Vulcans recommended the seat to me as they all ran them and loved this seat.

I am open to trying stuff out so I gave it a whirl. What I like about the Mustang seats is they can be run either solo or you can add the pillion pad very quickly and simply to make it a two up seat. It's like getting two seats for the price of one.

Great Looks

If you take a look at the Vintage Mustang seat then you immediately see that it is definitely a good looking seat. I am more of a solo seat kind of guy but at the time my wife didn't ride her own bike so riding double was a necessary evil. That makes the Mustang seat that much more attractive to me. I can fly solo or put the pillion on in minutes and be ready to roll two up at the drop of a hat.

The studs and conchos add an old school vintage look to your ride and it matched the theme of my bike very nicely.

Easy Installation

Installation of the Mustang Solo seat was a piece of cake as it has the typical slip fit tongue in the front and the back either bolts down to the stock Harley opening. Harley provides two holes in the rear fender of the bikes, in case you run either solo or double. Install couldn't have been easier.

The fit of the Vintage Mustang seat was great and it looked better than the factory seat. When the rear pillion is installed it still looks good and compliments the bike nicely.

Solid Construction

Mustang seats are well known to be of solid construction and my example was no different. The stitching was nice and tight and the material was pulled over the pan nicely to make a clean looking seat. The Mustang seats tend to be a little wider than stock seats and they change the angle of your legs ever so slightly so that it reduces numbess in your butt and upper legs on long rides.

I wouldn't have believed that such a small geometry change could make such a significant difference in the way a seat feels but it was apparent on the first ride that this was an awesome seat. I would say that this seat easily extended my comfortable ride time by as much as two hours before I had to stop. That's two additional hours over the stock seat....HUGE IMPROVEMENT.

Mustang has a huge variety of seats so I am sure that you can find something that will fit what you are looking for in a Harley Davidson seat. The two piece design is the best of both worlds and was the way to go for me.

Conclusion

I ran the Mustang seat on my Fat Boy for a couple of years before I sold the bike. If I had another cruiser I wouldn't hesitate to install another Mustang seat on it again. A great ride, looked great and superb construction make for a nice package.
