Danny Gray Harley Seat

Danny Gray has been building seats for over 35 years and has built the Danny Gray brand into one of the premier V-Twin seat builders available anywhere. I recently had the chance to take a ride on a friend of mine's lowered FXST equipped with a Danny Gray seat and I have to say I am impressed.

Danny Gray Buttcrack Solo

Danny Gray Solo SeatThe bike that I rode was equipped with the Danny Gray buttcrack solo seat. How bad can a company be that has enough of a sense of humor to name a seat after your butt crack? I have to say I am more of a "looks" kind of guy than a comfort kind of guy. My 07 FXSTB is more of an around the town bike than a long haul touring machine so I like the way a seat can make a bike look more than anything. It has to fit the bike right for me to be impressed and this Danny Gray buttcrack seat is mean looking.

It hugs the frame and has that low, lean and mean look that a lowered softail just lovees. The seat looks like it would put you back in the seat yet be very comfortable at the same time. So the first requirement, hands down the Danny Gray Solo seat is a winner. It looks great.

Danny Gray Solo Comfort

I will be the first to tell you that comfort is pretty subjective so its hard to describe how a seat feels in a review. I will tell you that I rode this bike for about 40 miles of around the town riding and it felt great the entire time. I have a LePera Bare Bones Solo on my own Nightrain and I am used to that but I don't think anyone would call it a "comfortable" seat by any stretch.

The Danny Gray solo seat was pretty damn comfortable. I don't know if it was the different bike or the seat but I found it to be much more comfortable than my LePera. I still wouldn't call this a long haul seat but for someone like me that stops fairly regularly and wants a badass looking seat then I would recommend the Danny Gray solo seat to anyone.

Danny Gray Solo Construction

You can tell with a glance that the Danny Gray seats are very well constructed. I checked their website and found that all of their seats are made using a hand laid fiberglass seat pan that will be plenty durable for years to come. They also use a leather seating area combined with vinyl side pieces.

If you've never ridden on a leather seat then it is quite a different experience than an all vinyl seat. The leather will require some time to break in to your butt but once it does, they make for a supremely comfortable ride compared to Vinyl. It breathes much better and is nowhere near as hot as vinyl in my opinion.

Danny Gray also offer a gel option in many of their seats if you are so inclined. I have little to no experience with gel so I don't know if that would make a good upgrade or not. I am more of a plain and simple kind of guy so I always opt for no gel in my seats. I have not heard much good about it but again, comfort is very subjective.

Danny Gray Solo Seat Conclusion

In summary I would easily recommend the Danny Gray Buttcrack solo to anyone who was after a solo seat. Danny Gray makes a NUMBER of different styles of seats for all makes and models of motorcycles.

If you are after a two up seat, long haul, solo or what have you, then Danny Gray can help. If you are considering a seat upgrade for your Harley Davidson then I would strongly recommend that you give the Danny Gray line of seats a good look. I think they are great.
