Harley Davidson Bare Bones Solo Review

LePera Bare Bones Solo Harley SeatLePera makes some badass seats for Harley Davidsons so they were one of the first ones I looked at when I was looking for a seat for my 2007 FXSTB. My Harley is not the "long haul" kind of bike and is more of a toy than anything else so the "look" of the seat was pretty high on my list of priorities.

Great Looks

If you take a look at the LePera Bare Bones Solo then you immediately see that it is a great looking seat. I much prefer the look of a solo seat for my softail and conveniently my wife has her own Sportster so I have no need for a double seat. In the few times I might need one, I do have a suction cup pillion pad anyways that works in a pinch nicely.

When I received my Bare Bones solo it was obvious that it is a great looking seat and the shape of the seat is exactly the look I was after. The construction was first rate and something that is nice about the LePera is they use a full metal pan for the seat pan so you know it's rugged.

Easy Installation

Installation of the Bare Bones Solo was a snap. It has a slip fit tongue in the rear and the back it simply lines up with the screw hole that is already provided by Harley Davidson. I think it installed in literally about 20 seconds.

The fit of the Bare Bones Solo was great. It fits so nicely that it looks like it were a factory option seat. The tongue snuggles up nicely against the gas tank and the pan nestles in between the rear fender rails nicely.

Solid Construction

The construction of the Bare Bones Solo appears to be great, nicely stitched and tightly pulled material makes for a sleek and clean seat. The ride of the seat is similar to the stock Harley Davidson Badlander seat. You don't really gain any more comfortable of a ride with the Bare Bones solo but it's a billion times better looking in my opinion.

They do have a gel option if you would like to find a little more comfortable ride but my seat did not come equipped with gel. I have heard mixed reports on the comfort level of gel seats so I am not sold that this would fix the problem. The ride of my seat is of no consequence to me as I stop frequently anyways and it is more than acceptable so don't think it rides poorly.

Conclusion

I have had the seat on the bike for about a year now and I wouldn't change it out for anything else I have seen, at least not yet. If you are in the market for a great looking seat for your Harley then I can say confidently that you would be happy with the Bare Bones.

Just a word of caution that if you have an 06 and later Softail then it's a different part number for that seat that the earlier softails. The 200mm tire necessitates a wider seat pan.
